Burkina Faso security forces have begun assault to recapture the hotel and rescue hostages. Some hostages have been freed, media reported.
SITE Intelligence group, a U.S.-based monitor group said on its website "Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed credit for the raid at the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso Wholesale Chicago Bulls Hoodies , reporting its execution by the recently-joined al-Murabitoon Battalion."
The Splendid Hotel often hosts Westerners, including UN staff and journalists, CNN reported.

Earlier in the day, some 20 armed men attacked a security forces patrol in the vicinity of the northern city of Tinakof, near the Mali border, killing two people including a police officer and a civilian.

LOS ANGELES, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic bid committee announced Monday it's candidature to host Olympic and Paralympic Games 2028.
In a press release sent to Xinhua by the city mayor's office, Los Angeles, the second largest city of the United States declared its intention to host the Olympic Games 2028 and its agreement with the Host City Contract 2028, which is a preliminary deal with International Olympic Committee (IOC) paving the way for the city to be awarded the 2028 Games.
""The Los Angeles City Council and United States Olympic Committee Board of Directors will consider the agreement for approval in August.
