BUFFALO Womens T. J. Watt Jersey , N.Y. (AP) — An offseason of soul-searching led forward Kyle Okposo to realize a roster overhaul alone wasn’t going to improve the Buffalo Sabres‘ fortunes.

Okposo figured out that he and other team leaders would also have to change their approach. They had to buy in mentally and physically if Buffalo stood a chance of climbing out of a rut after finishing last in for the third time in five years.

“Everybody talks about change and change and change. You hear it 100 times. But until you do, you haven’t,” Okposo said. “You have to put the work in. You can’t just show up next year and say, ‘Oh, I think it’s going to be different,’ because that’s the definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.”

With Buffalo mired in a franchise-worst seven-year playoff drought, it’s now on the players and second-year coach Phil Housley to show they’re not the same dysfunctional team, whose season was summed up by now-traded center Ryan O’Reilly’s claim of a losing culture having crept into the locker room.

“I’ve used those words a few time,” Okposo said http://www.raidersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-johnny-townsend-jersey , when asked if he was cautiously optimistic. “It’s more of a fresh start, like a baptism almost.”

General manager Jason Botterill focused on shaking up an under-achieving roster through a series of trades. Buffalo acquired forwards Jeff Skinner, Conor Sheary, Tage Thompson, Patrik Berglund and Vladimir Sobotka, and signed goalie Carter Hutton in free agency.

And that was after Buffalo drafted 18-year-old Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin with the No. 1 pick.

Housley took aim at addressing the team’s culture. He opened a dialogue by allowing his leaders to air differences and raise concerns through a series of frank discussions in what became an offseason-long cleansing session.

“I give them all credit, because they have had to put themselves in a vulnerable position at times, they’ve had to listen to feedback and a lot of criticism they might not have liked to hear,” Housley said Thomas Davis Jersey , including himself and staff in that equation. “But I think if you are going to make a difference, and you want to change the direction of this franchise, we have to change as people.

The challenge now is seeing how the Sabres respond once they open the season hosting Boston on Oct. 4.

“There’s just a really good vibe right now,” Housley said. “But when we face adversity, it’s going to be interesting how we handle that. And I have the trust and confidence in our group.”

      DAHLIN ON D

Dahlin has already created a buzz with his smooth-skating and heads-up play-making abilities. Fans packed the Sabres practice facility to watch Dahlin take part in the team’s rookie camp in June and a prospects tournament in September. Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman told The Associated Press Dahlin has the potential to become the best defenseman in franchise history.

      YOU KNOW JACK

Center Jack Eichel has changed his number, from 15 to 9, and acknowledged a need to have a more even-keeled approach by openly showing fewer signs of frustration on the ice and in the locker room. The second player selected in the 2015 draft also enters the first season of an eight-year, $80 million contract, and eager to show he’s maturing into a leader.

“The losing the last few years 49ers Fred Warner Jersey , I’ve never dealt with that in my life. You have to learn from it and figure out what you can do to change it,” Eichel said.

      BETWEEN THE PIPES

Hutton is pegged to share the goaltending duties with Linus Ullmark, who makes the jump to the NHL on a full-time basis after spending most the past three seasons developing in the minors. They replace the tandem of Robin Lehner and Chad Johnson, who departed in free agency. Hutton enters his sixth season after spending the past two in St. Louis, where he went 30-15-5 in 62 appearances.

      FROM THE CO-OWNER

“Listen, it can’t get any worse. I mean 31st is pretty much the bottom,” Sabres co-owner Kim Pegula said with a laugh. But she and her husband, Terry, remain patient.

“Consistency and growth is really where we are from an ownership standpoint Kawann Short Jersey , as opposed to the fan,” she said. “We need to temper our kneejerk on that.”

      THE SCHEDULE

The Sabres open with a four-game homestand before playing 12 of 17 on the road, including a western swing that has them playing five games in nine days.

The Tennessee Titans have told defensive lineman Sylvester Williams they are releasing him after one season into a three-year deal signed a year ago.

The Titans announced Saturday they were releasing Williams.

The 28th pick overall in 2013 by Denver, Williams spent his first four seasons with the Broncos where he started 48 games and had 5陆 sacks with 94 tackles. Williams signed with Tennessee in March 2017 and started 11 of 15 games. He finished with four tackles for loss and three quarterback pressures with 26 tackles.

Williams' base salary for this season was $5 million and $5.5 million in 2019.

The Titans also released defensive lineman Karl Klug on Friday with Williams the sixth player released since March 8.

The New England Patriots signed wide receiver Jordan Matthews as they continue jumbling their corps of targets for Tom Brady.

Matthews http://www.lionscheapshop.com/cheap-authentic-golden-tate-iii-jersey , 25, has played four NFL seasons, three with the Eagles and last season with the Bills (2017). In 56 NFL games with 42 starts, he has 250 receptions for 2 D.J. Fluker Color Rush Jersey ,955 yards and 20 touchdowns.

He was a second-round draft pick (42nd overall) by Philadelphia in 2014 out of Vanderbilt. He was traded from Philadelphia to Buffalo along with a third-round draft pick last summer for cornerback Ronald Darby.

New England previously saw Danny Amendola leave for Miami as a free agent, and traded Brandin Cooks to the Rams for a first-round draft pick. The Patriots expect top receiver Julian Edelman to return from a knee injury that cost him the 2017 season.

President Trump has weighed in on the NFL’s new national anthem policy, saying the owners took a step in the right direction — but warning that the rule allowing players to remain in the locker room could be problematic.

“I think that’s good,” Trump said on Fox and Friends. “I don’t think people should be staying in locker rooms Youth John Moore Jersey , but still I think it’s good. You have to stand proudly for the national anthem or you shouldn’t be playing, you shouldn’t be there, maybe you shouldn’t be in the country. You have to stand proudly for the national anthem and the NFL owners did the right thing if that’s what they’ve done.”

Trump said he doesn’t think he deserves to be seen as the person who made the new policy happen, saying instead that he just highlighted something that a lot of Americans cared about.

“I think the people pushed it forward http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-logan-paulsen-jersey ,” Trump said. “This was not me. I brought it out. I think the people pushed it forward. This country’s very smart. We have very smart people. That’s something ideally could have been taken when it first started, it would have been a lot easier. But if they did that, they’re doing the right thing.”

The NFL has, in the past Donte Jackson Color Rush Jersey , allowed players to choose for themselves whether to stand for the anthem. Starting this year, players must stand if they are on the field, but they can choose not to be on the field during the anthem.

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms with third-round draft pick Deadrin Senat Youth Detroit Lions Jerseys , a defensive tackle from South Florida.

The deal leaves only the team’s first-round pick, wide receiver Calvin Ridley of Alabama, unsigned before Friday’s opening of a two-day rookie minicamp.

Of the team’s six draft picks, Senat may have the clearest path to a starting job. There is an opening at defensive tackle after free agent Dontari Poe signed with NFC South rival Carolina.

On Wednesday, the team announced agreements with four draft picks: cornerback Isaiah Oliver, running back Ito Smith, wide receiver Russell Gage and linebacker Foye Oluokun.

MINNEAPOLIS — A series that was solely in the Rockets’ favor in Houston took a turn in Game 3 in Minnesota.

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni was his usual calm self after the 121-105 loss on Saturday, but he knows his team will have to match the Timberwolves‘ intensity in Game 4 on Monday night in Minnesota.

“Yeah Womens Patrick Mahomes Jersey , it’s disappointing,” D’Antoni said after Houston lost its first game of the series and just the third in 23 meetings against Minnesota. “But, hey guys, you have a playoff series and they’re a good team. They played better than we did today. We’ll make some adjustments. We’ll figure this out.

“On Monday, we’ll have to match their intensity. If we don’t, we’ll get beat again. It’s pretty simple.”

Driven by the Target Center crowd that hadn’t witnessed a home playoff game since 2004, the Timberwolves pulled to 2-1 in the seven-game series with the top-seeded Rockets. Jimmy Butler scored 28 points, Jeff Teague added 23 and Minnesota hit 15 3-pointers in Saturday’s win.

The Timberwolves http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-d.j.-fluker-jersey , who hit the fewest 3s per game in the NBA during the regular season, matched Houston’s total. The Rockets led the league in 3s per game in the regular season.

“They’re a great team,” Minnesota coach Tom Thibodeau said. “We know we’re going to have to play better on Monday. I think we’re capable of playing better. We’re learning more each day.

“We learn. We improve. Same thing, we know we can’t feel too good about ourselves. We have to get in tomorrow, study the film, get ready. We know Monday will be an intense game.”

The Timberwolves hope they’ve found a combination to be able to keep up with the Rockets. Minnesota’s defense, which was among the worst in the league during the regular season, has slowly come around and helped trigger a big second half on Saturday.

From Karl-Anthony Towns engaging defenders down low to power forward Taj Gibson defending James Harden one-on-one resulting in a poor shot attempt Authentic Mike White Jersey , the Timberwolves’ defense effort became contagious team-wide.

The Rockets shot 47.5 percent from the field in the second half but had seven turnovers and were just 6 of 19 (31.6 percent) from 3.

“We’re a young team in playoff experience, so we’re growing, getting better every game,” Teague said. “Tonight we took a big step. I think we picked up our intensity and played a lot harder, but it’s still a long way to go.”

Minnesota also got Towns more involved on the offensive end. His lack of shots has been a topic all series. The All-Star center had nine shots in each of the first two games of the series and scored a total of 13 points.

On Saturday, he had 18 points, including 12 in the second half.

“I think it is a sense of patience,” Towns said. “First quarter Adidas Mats Zuccarello Jersey , I don’t think I shot a shot. So it’s letting the game come to me naturally, not trying to rush and trying to find shots. Letting the shots find me and my teammates were amazing.”

Harden scored 29 points and Chris Paul had 17 points and six assists, but the Rockets now need to make an adjustment.

Houston wants to get back to its defensive approach and limit Minnesota as it did in the first two games of the series. The Timberwolves averaged 91.5 points per game in the first two games and shot just 38.8 percent from the field in Game 2.

“We knew that was going to be a lot more comfortable coming home,” Paul said. “They make a lot more 3s tonight, 15 for 27, and we got to be better defensively. We were just opening up the lane and letting Teague drive and all the other guys, so we know we got to be better.”

As much as he tries to downplay the significance Youth Marcus Davenport Jersey , Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden is fully aware Friday's exhibition game against the Detroit Lions will be anything but an ordinary preseason contest.

It's been 17 years since Gruden last roamed the sidelines at the Coliseum with the Raiders. He came back in 2004 with Tampa Bay and again in 2012 as a television analyst.

Gruden's iconic status among Raiders fans promises to make this time different. Much, much different.

"I am looking forward to it," Gruden said Wednesday after the second of two joint practices with the Lions. "I'm looking forward to it big-time. I've got some things obviously I've got to work out. So I've got to work myself through calling plays again and managing some tough situations. I'm anxious to see if I can do it."

Gruden developed a cult-like following during his first stint as the Raiders coach from 1998-2001. Those feelings didn't wane when Gruden was traded to Tampa Bay by late owner Al Davis and only strengthened when the coach went into the television booth.

Gruden showed his appreciation in 2009 while in town to broadcast a San Francisco 49ers game when he held a party at Ricky's, a Raiders sports bar not far from the Coliseum.

Gruden held another party at Ricky's three weeks ago to celebrate his return and paid for dinner and soft drinks for the fans. About 600 people showed up.

"It's an honor to be here and it's a great story, but I also just want to do everything I can in order to try and help this team win again," Gruden said. "I love the Raider fans. I love Oakland and that's the primary reason I'm standing here."

Lions coach Matt Patricia developed a friendship with Gruden while he was defensive coordinator in New England and the Raiders coach was working at ESPN.

Gruden's return, Patricia said, is good for the NFL.

"If you meet with him, you're gonna find a guy that absolutely loves football from its core, all the way out, every aspect of it Falcons Authentic Jerseys ," Patricia said. "He loves to coach and I think he loves to be around the players. I think it's great for the game. I think it's great for the Raiders organization."

The rest of the storyline around Friday's game is fairly antiseptic.

Quarterback Derek Carr and the rest of Oakland's starters will only play a series or two, with the majority of playing time being doled out to the rookies and fringe players on the roster.

"This game is not about Derek Carr, not yet," Gruden said. "It's about finding the right 53 men, and I think you saw it today, we've got a lot of contenders. There are a lot of guys that have put themselves on the brink of making this football team and we've got to make sure we give them every opportunity to showcase their skills."

Notes: Former Raiders Warren Sapp and James Jones attended practice, along with ex-Lions coach and current NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci. . LT Donald Penn continues to rehab from offseason foot surgery and is getting closer to getting back on the field. "Our trainer is pleased with the progress that he's made," Gruden said. "Hopefully that time is soon."

With barely a week left until the season opens, Browns coach Hue Jackson is still tinkering with his offensive line.

      Another shift could be coming.

During a conference call on Friday, Jackson raised the possibility that Joel Bitonio could be on the move again. The team slid him from left guard to tackle during training camp to fill the cavern created when perennial Pro Bowler Joe Thomas retired following last season.

Jackson said Cleveland's line remains under construction just nine days before the Pittsburgh Steelers come to town.

"Everything is a little bit fluid over there, especially on the left side as we continue to move forward Orlando Brown Jr. Jersey ," he said. "I am going to say this again, I am going to continue to put the best five guys out there."

When camp opened, the Browns had Shon Coleman, who started 16 games at right tackle, lined up at left tackle. After line coach Bob Wylie said shifting Bitonio to left tackle was "Plan Z," Jackson did it anyway and put rookie Austin Corbett at left guard.

That's how the Browns played their first three exhibition games, and by all accounts Bitonio held his own at a position he hadn't played since college. The reviews on Corbett, the No. 33 overall draft pick this year, were a little more mixed, and it's possible the Browns aren't satisfied with his progress.

"I think that he has done some good things," Jackson said when asked specifically about Corbett. "I have always said from Day 1 that we are going to play the best five guys. How that unfolds as we go through preseason and as we go through everything Youth Geron Christian Jersey , we will make a decision about what we think is best."

The Browns did make a line move on Friday, trading Coleman to the San Francisco 49ers for a seventh-round draft pick next season. Coleman was drafted in the third round by the Browns in 2016.

Undrafted rookie Desmond Harrison started at left tackle in Thursday's exhibition finale at Detroit and Jackson said the 6-foot-6, 295-pounder could be in the mix. Harrison transferred from Texas and finished his college career at West Georgia.

"All of those avenues are open," Jackson said. "I know we have seen Joel at left tackle and he has played it, and Corbett at left guard and Harrison at left tackle. When it is all said and done, my job is that we put the best five guys out there, and that is what we are going to do."

Another option is former Arizona and Chicago lineman Earl Watford, who signed with the Browns earlier this week. Watford has appeared in 43 NFL games, making 21 starts with the Cardinals. He played both right and left guard last season.

Although things are unsettled up front, Jackson insists he's not worried.

"I feel good about where we are, where we are headed Marlon Mack Jersey , and the players who we have playing there," he said. "I just want to make sure that we are not turning in the lineup cards today or to say who is starting or anything like that. I just want to make sure that it is a decision, when it is all said and done, that I am good with it all and that I am not going to change two days from now or three days from now."

NOTES: Cleveland began trimming its roster ahead of Saturday's deadline. The most notable cut was WR Jeff Janis, signed as a free agent in March after four years with Green Bay. Janis was passed by several of Cleveland's young receivers. Also released was fourth-string QB Brogan Roback, who got some quality time on this season's "Hard Knocks" series. ... Jackson said WR Josh Gordon will return to practice Monday. The former Pro Bowler missed the first three weeks of camp while receiving treatment in Florida connected to his drug and alcohol addictions. He's been slowed by a hamstring injury since being cleared by the NFL to resume all activities.

Atlanta is set to add another expansion franchise – this time in esports.

The Overwatch League announced Thursday that Atlanta will join the global http://www.falconsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-isaiah-oliver-jersey , city-based esports circuit in 2019, its second season. The team will be managed by Atlanta Esports Ventures, a partnership between Cox Enterprises and Province Inc.

”We’ve had our eye on Atlanta for a long time,” said Pete Vlastelica, president and CEO of Activision Blizzard Esports Leagues. ”It is near the top of the list of remaining Overwatch cities in the world, certainly in North America.”

The league also announced a new franchise in Guangzhou, China. It plans to add four more franchises before next season, which would bring the total to 18.

The Overwatch League explored awarding Atlanta one of its 12 inaugural franchises but couldn’t find an ownership fit for the first season. The league is hoping to capture some of the same enthusiasm backing Atlanta United of the MLS. The soccer club has shattered just about every MLS attendance record since joining the league in 2017.

”There’s a lot of Overwatch players there, and not just in Atlanta but in the Southeast,” Vlastelica said. ”Between Texas, where we have two franchises, and Florida Washington Redskins Jerseys Womens , where we have a franchise, there’s a lot of America and a lot of video game players and a lot of Overwatch players. And it’s just a great sports market.”

Province executive Paul Hamilton will serve as Atlanta’s president and general manager. He’s a lifelong esports enthusiast and hardcore fan of Blizzard’s 6 vs. 6 first-person shooter. He plans to be hands-on regarding player acquisition and roster management.

”I probably have more strong feelings about players than most of the people that are running these teams,” Hamilton said. ”That may end up not being a good thing, but we’ll see.”

Player contracts from the league’s inaugural season will expire Sept. 9, and the league’s expansion franchises will be granted an exclusive free agency window from then until Oct. 7 to fill the bulk of their rosters. The minimum salary for players in the league’s inaugural season was $50,000.

Hamilton has been in contact with people from the AMB Group, Arthur Blank’s company that manages the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United. Hamilton is hoping to build local support in much the same way the soccer team did.

”They really engaged the hardcore fan first,” Hamilton said. ”They wanted the people that are tried and true.”

The Guangzhou franchise was awarded to Nenking Group, which also manages the Guangzhou Long Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association.

Atlanta and Guangzhou have yet to announce team names or unveil logos. Expansion fees were not disclosed. The 12 inaugural franchises were reportedly awarded last year for $20 million each, with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and New York Mets owner Jeff Wilpon among the initial buyers.

Like the rest of the Overwatch League, Atlanta and Guangzhou will be based out of Southern California next season. The league is hosting all matches at Blizzard Arena in Burbank, California Bears Authentic Jerseys , until its franchises can find arenas and build the infrastructure necessary for esport events in their host cities. The league hopes to begin holding true home-and-away matches in its third season.

The league’s 14 franchises currently span three continents, including first-year champion London, runner-up Philadelphia, Seoul and Shanghai. Vlastelica said the league would likely announce a 15th team in the next week or two, with future expansion focused mostly outside the United States.

London beat Philadelphia in the league’s first Grand Finals at Barclays Center in New York last week. The first night of the two-night championship was broadcast live on ESPN, a first for the traditional sports network in prime time.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman shares the sports world’s amazement at the Vegas Golden Knights‘ ability to reach the Stanley Cup Final in their first year of existence.

But if the league adds another team in Seattle in the near future Drew Stafford Jersey , Bettman expects it to have every opportunity to accomplish the same feat under the same favorable expansion terms given to Vegas.

The commissioner also acknowledged that the Emerald City could secure that expansion team within the year.

The Golden Knights are hosting the Washington Capitals after winning the Western Conference in an inaugural season that ”quite simply astonished the sporting world,” Bettman said in his usual state-of-the-league remarks before the Final opened on Monday night.

Sour grapes were understandable among the fans of other NHL teams after Vegas’ incredible ascent to the top of a league with 12 other teams that have never won the Stanley Cup and seven more that haven’t won it in the last 20 years.

The Golden Knights cleverly built this winner with an undeniably generous expansion draft that allowed them to select the likes of franchise goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and many other proven NHL players. Yet Bettman said he has received ”no pushback whatsoever” about the favorable expansion draft from the league’s other 30 owners

”I think people (around hockey) are excited,” Bettman said. ”I think it’s gotten their attention.”

Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly both confirmed the NHL plans to keep the same rules on the next expansion draft. If it happens within the next two years, as increasingly expected, Vegas won’t have to lose any of its players, Daly added.

The vote on adding a Seattle franchise won’t happen in June when the board of governors meets during the league’s annual awards show in Las Vegas, Bettman said. But the board will get an update on Seattle’s plans, and a formal vote could happen later this year, perhaps at meetings in September or December.

”There is a lot of due diligence that has to be done, a lot of interaction with the prospective ownership group Jakub Voracek Jersey Kids ,” Bettman said of the group headed by billionaire investment banker David Bonderman. ”We think we’re on target, and depending on how everything goes, it wouldn’t surprise me that there is a possibility that in the fall, early winter at the latest, that this could be addressed by the board. But we’re not there yet, and there is still work to be done.”

Seattle hopes to be ready to become the NHL’s 32nd franchise in 2020, pending a $600 million renovation of Key Arena. But after the energizing effect of the Golden Knights on this hockey season, the league’s appetite for expansion – and the likely $650 million fee that will be split among the league’s other owners – has been whetted.

The NHL also has talked about adding a franchise in Houston, the largest metropolitan area in the U.S. or Canada without a team. Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta has showed interest in joining the league, but a bid likely is years away.

”I don’t think at this point in time there’s interest in filing for an expansion franchise Joel Eriksson Ek Jersey ,” Daly said. ”I think they’re relatively new NBA owners. They’re getting their feet under them in terms of operating that franchise, knowing that that means. At some point in time, we’ll have a discussion with them about whether there’s an NHL team to pursue.”

More Stanley Cup coverage: Eric Rowe was in a daze after being told he was being traded from Philadelphia to New England in September of 2016, wondering why the team that drafted in the second round a year earlier no longer wanted him.

The safety says he was blindsided by the deal to the Patriots, who sent the Eagles a fourth-round draft pick.

One message of support he received stood out. It was a text from Eagles veteran safety Malcolm Jenkins, who had taken a young Rowe under his wing.

”I remember he texted me the day I got traded just telling me that everything happens for a reason,” Rowe recalled. ”`Whatever you do, just keep working, because you’re going to be great one day.”’

Two seasons later, Jenkins and Rowe will be on opposite sidelines with a championship at stake.

Jenkins said it was a no-brainer to try to mentor Rowe when he was the Eagles.

”He played a lot as a rookie Authentic Sam Darnold Jersey , played some significant snaps. But once he got traded I wanted to send him a text encouraging him,” Jenkins said. ”Sometimes this business will move you around and then teams will get rid of you and doubt you. But at the end of the day don’t let it change what you think about yourself. You’re gonna be a great player.”

Rowe said the words from a ”phenomenal leader” like Jenkins helped him focus following the trade.

”I knew it was just the business of the NFL,” Rowe said. ”I’m like, `OK, I need to take advantage of this opportunity, because you don’t get a lot of opportunities to play for the Patriots.”’

In the season-plus that Rowe has been gone from Philadelphia, he’s become yet another young defender who as developed into an asset in the Patriots’ system.

Including the playoffs, he has appeared in 22 games for New England, totaling 49 tackles and two interceptions.

Rowe has primarily been used as an extra defensive back in passing situations and could draw the responsibility as the last line of defense against the Eagles receivers.

With linebacker Jordan Hicks out for the season with an Achilles tendon injury, Rowe may be matched up with receiver Nelson Agholor.

Agholor was Philadelphia’s first-round pick in 2015 and led the Eagles with a career-best 62 receptions for 768 yards and eight touchdowns.

”I talk to guys. We’re still friends. We hang out in the offseason Kyle Juszczyk Jersey ,” Rowe said. ”I texted them `Congrats’ because some of us were in the same draft class or on the same team.”

Friends or not, Rowe is ready for whatever comes next as he vies for his second straight Super Bowl ring.

”It’s only my third year, and my second going to a Super Bowl. I don’t know what the odds of that are, so obviously I don’t take it for granted,” Rowe said. ”But there’s a couple of guys in here that have been to four, and they still take it like their first one. So I never take it for granted.”

Brickley also was coveted by NHL teams as a free agent last spring Falcons Authentic Jerseys , but chose to return to Minnesota State as a junior.

The Kings will introduce Brickley at a news conference Friday in Salt Lake City, Brickley’s hometown. He is the nephew of former Bruins forward Andy Brickley Davon House Jersey , who also played for the IHL’s Utah Grizzlies.

Eyssimont scored 39 points in 39 games for St. Cloud State this season, leading the Huskies with 17 goals. He was a fifth-round draft pick by the Kings in 2016.

ORCHARD PARK Authentic Johnny Townsend Jersey , N.Y. (AP) — Excited by the opportunity of securing the Buffalo Bills‘ starting job, rookie quarterback Josh Allen had no intention of keeping anyone waiting Wednesday.

That included members of the media seeking to hear Allen’s first public reaction two days after the Bills announced he would start in Buffalo’s preseason game against Cincinnati on Sunday.

Upon completing extra work after practice, the quarterback skipped through the fieldhouse doors, then jogged toward a large group of reporters gathered outside the locker room. Apologizing for being late, the 22-year-old was still trying to catch his breath while attempting to put this week’s developments into perspective.

“It’s crazy to think about, definitely, but I’m not going out there to try to prove why I’m the starter or whatever the case may be,” Allen said. “This is an opportunity for me, and I’m not going to take it lightly. But at the same time Adidas Nathan MacKinnon Jersey , I’m here for whatever the team needs, and I’m just going to try to do my job.”

Allen did his best to de-emphasize the significance his first preseason start represents by calling it “just another game.”

If only it were so simple for a player the Bills traded up five spots to select with the seventh pick — the highest draft position the franchise has used to choose a quarterback.

In the four months since, the Wyoming product has gone from a raw prospect requiring time to develop behind either free-agent addition AJ McCarron or returning backup Nathan Peterman, to having a realistic shot at being the team’s season-opening starter.

Allen’s opportunity comes after showing gradual signs of improvement through the first weeks of training camp, which carried over into Buffalo’s first two preseason games.

In a preseason-opening loss to Carolina on Aug. 9, he showed off his strong arm, but was erratic by finishing 9 of 19 for 116 yards and a touchdown while overseeing the third-string offense.

On Friday, Allen went 9 of 13 for 60 yards and a touchdown in leading the second-stringers on scoring drives — including two field goals — on each of his three series during a 19-17 win at Cleveland .

Rather than not revealing the starter until an hour before kickoff, as coach Sean McDermott did the two previous weeks Taron Johnson Jersey , the Bills announced Allen would start against the Bengals in a message posted on their Twitter account Monday evening.

McDermott said the difference in his approach was to provide Allen a chance to experience what a normal NFL week during the regular season would resemble.

“It’s just him dipping his toes in the water, if you will, of what that looks like on and off the field,” he said. “How he handles his teammates. How he handles the meetings. How he handles the interviews. That’s all part of what comes with that starting quarterback position.”

McDermott wouldn’t divulge how long Allen might play Sunday, or commit to whether he has a chance of securing the starting job with a good outing.

Peterman will serve as the backup, while McCarron’s status is uncertain after he hurt his right throwing shoulder against Cleveland. McCarron returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday after missing the previous two sessions.

All eyes will be on the 6-foot-5, 240-pound Allen, who is being asked to fill a position that’s remained unsettled since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly retired following the 1996 season. Allen’s two touchdown passes showed glimpses of his potential.

Against Carolina, he zipped the ball between two defenders in hitting Ray-Ray McCloud III for a 14-yard touchdown. Against Cleveland TJ Brodie Jersey , Allen avoided the pass rush, stepped up in the pocket and flicked his wrist to hit Rod Streater in the back of the end zone for a 2-yard score.

“You definitely can see the poise, definitely see the elusiveness,” Streater said of Allen. “All those things are going to come to him. It has come to him now. But he’s going to grow even more in the future. It’s exciting to see him grow.”

One step at a time, Allen said.

“I was happy with the performance, but I’m not content,” he said, referring to the game Friday. “Just trying to learn from every little mistake on the field, and even learn from every success Jason Spriggs Jersey , too.”

Question marks remain regarding a player who has had limited experience with Bills starters and has yet to face an opposing team’s starting defense. Asked how much the pace of the game has slowed down, Allen provided a candid response, saying: “I guess we’ll find out come Sunday.”

Agent Tom Condon said on Tuesday night that he and the Titans have been talking about a new deal for left tackle Taylor Lewan, but didn’t say whether his client would be reporting on schedule to training camp on Wednesday.

Wednesday morning brings further word on that front and it’s positive news for the Titans. Longtime Titans reporter Paul Kuharsky of 104.5 The Zone and his own website reports that Lewan will be reporting to camp on time.

There’s no word about whether a new deal is imminent, but Lewan’s presence would be a good sign that an agreement isn’t too far away.

Lewan was a first-round pick in 2014 and has made the Pro Bowl the last two seasons while starting every game for Tennessee. Assuming Lewan is in camp, the Titans will only be waiting for right tackle Jack Conklin to come off the PUP list after tearing his ACL in the playoffs in order to have their bookend tackles back in place.

The ovation moved Aaron Rodgers to tears.

The Green Bay Packers fans showed their appreciation with the two-time NFL MVP about to take his first snaps at Lambeau Field in almost a year. Once he got behind center http://www.billsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-josh-allen-jersey , Rodgers needed just one drive to look right at home back in Titletown.

Rodgers connected with tight end Jimmy Graham for an 8-yard score , and Tramon Williams had a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage of the Packers' 51-34 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.

"The biggest thing, the goal tonight with Aaron in that first drive was to get the ball in the end zone," coach Mike McCarthy said. "And I thought we did a nice job."

The response from fans seemed just as meaningful to Rodgers.

He was 2 of 4 for 35 yards in his first game at Lambeau since Sept. 28. He broke his collarbone two weeks later at Minnesota, an injury that doomed the Packers in a 7-9 season.

"To be back at Lambeau was a thrill and the ovation touched me," Rodgers said. "I have to kind of wipe away some tears in my eyes."

Starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger watched from the sideline in shorts and a T-shirt. He and second-stringer Landry Jones had already been ruled out for the game when Roethlisberger left a training camp practice on Tuesday with a possible concussion.

Big Ben looked just fine while chatting with Rodgers as they walked to their respective locker rooms at halftime. After the game, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Roethlisberger was out of the concussion protocol.

Sounds like he'll be back at practice Saturday.

"He's out of the protocol. He's a full participant," Tomlin said.

The Steelers got off to rough start after Mason Rudolph threw the interception returned by Williams.

But five minutes later, Rudolph found JuJu Smith-Schuster for a 4-yard touchdown pass. Rudolph, who is competing with Joshua Dobbs for a backup job Eagles Game Jerseys , was just 5 of 12 for 47 yards in playing the first half.

Dobbs didn't look much better after throwing a 22-yard interception returned for a touchdown by rookie cornerback Josh Jackson in the third quarter.

"We'd just like to have those plays back, but the deal is you don't get those plays back," Tomlin said. "So, hopefully, there's a learning process there in it for all of us."

Dobbs finished strong and connected with rookie receiver James Washington for two second-half touchdowns . He was 12 of 17 for 192 yards.

      GOING TO GRAHAM

Green Bay is always a threat in the NFC as long as Rodgers is healthy. This year, he has an intriguing option in the red zone in the 6-foot-7 Graham, who signed as a free agent in the offseason.

Rodgers drew the Steelers offside on third-and-10 from the 13 for a 5-yard penalty.

On the next play, he stood tall in the face of a rush before throwing a high pass into the middle of the end zone for Graham. He spiked the ball before heading into the stands for his first Lambeau Leap.

      SMITH-SCHUSTER SCORES

Besides Roethlisberger, the Steelers didn't have two other stars. Receiver Antonio Brown sat out, while running back Le'Veon Bell still hasn't signed his franchise tender.

But Smith-Schuster is picking up where he left off following a promising rookie year after scoring his second preseason TD. The score wrapped up a wild opening five minutes in which the Packers raced out to a 14-point lead before the Steelers scored two straight touchdowns.

Green Bay's backups pulled away from there.

      STAT LINES

Second-string quarterback Brett Hundley was 6 of 9 for 77 yards. He also scored on a 10-yard run . Third-stringer DeShone Kizer connected with receiver Jake Kumerow for an 82-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

James Conner had a 26-yard touchdown run for the Steelers in the first quarter while the Packers still had many starters on the field. Washington scored on a 19-yard pass from Dobbs after turning and extending his arms past a defender to retrieve the ball.

"Every time he gets a rep Adidas Joe Thornton Jersey , my eyes are on him. I'm just studying him each and every day, picking his brain, just trying to become a better receiver." 鈥?Washington on watching Brown in practice.

If Joe Flacco is indeed more fired up than in past years, it’s likely because the heat is emanating from under his seat atop the Ravens depth chart.

It may have gotten even warmer Thursday, as the Ravens let first-round quarterback Lamar Jackson run practice with the rest of the starting offense.

Via聽Katherine Fominykh of the Baltimore Sun, Jackson swapped places with Flacco during the final minicamp practice, and stayed with the first offense throughout.

Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg suggested it to coach John Harbaugh earlier in the week, and Harbaugh seemed pleased with the glimpses he saw.

鈥淛ust putting him out there today Authentic Paul Worrilow Jersey , putting the pressure on him to have him run the whole practice, operate the offense was valuable,鈥?Harbaugh said.

Jackson didn’t want to grade his own performance, but he said he felt “wonderful” about the experience he’s getting, as he continues to learn the playbook. Veterans were praising his performance, with wide receiver Willie Snead saying: “Once he gets it, you鈥檒l see something special.鈥?/p>

鈥淛ust to come from college and have veteran guys look at you like that, it鈥檚 amazing,鈥?Jackson said. 鈥淎 lot of guys aren鈥檛 getting looked at like that, and I appreciate that Authentic Gustav Nyquist Jersey , but I got to keep grinding.鈥?/p>

      Even Flacco was impressed.

How quickly Jackson progresses will largely determine Flacco’s own future, which makes those glimpses with the starters in practice a valuable peek into the future for the Ravens.

On the field Fozzy Whittaker Jersey , the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots are right where they want to be heading into the postseason.

As the AFC’s top seed and the owners of a first-round bye, the 13-3 Patriots will get to rest up during the opening weekend of the playoffs. But as they prepare to begin their latest run, their biggest opponent might be the perception of a fracturing relationship between arguably the franchise’s three most important pieces.

The Patriots dismissed as ”flat-out inaccurate” a report suggesting a rift involving owner Robert Kraft, coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady on Friday.

The three released a joint statement hours after an ESPN report, citing undisclosed sources, detailed an array of tension.

The story highlighted purported disputes concerning Brady’s personal body coach, Alex Guerrero, in player-medical affairs. Also mentioned is a supposed difference between Kraft and Belichick over the decision to trade backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The story implied Brady has taken issue with a lack of praise from Belichick this season.

The statement said the three have had a ”very good and productive working relationship” for 18 years and they regret having to ”respond to these fallacies.”

Brady and Belichick both eschewed questions last month about a chasm between and Belichick and Guerrero.

Belichick wouldn’t address the validity of a Boston Globe report that Guerrero had been banned from the sideline or travelling on the team plane, but said ”there are different relationships, different situations with dozens of other people.”

Brady also took issue with a reporter last month who asked whether the quarterback and Belichick had talked about an adjustment to Guerrero’s access to the team.

”I have a lot of conversations with him. Those are private between he and I, and I don’t think anyone knows what we talk about,” Brady said then. ”Certainly I’ve never talked about it. He’s never talked about it.”

Despite the reported off the field issues, the Patriots have thrived on it.

Even after losing receiver Julian Edelman in the preseason to a knee injury and linebacker Dont’a Hightower in October to a season-ending pectoral injury, they enter the playoffs with the NFL’s top-ranked offense and a defense that is allowing just 18.5 points per game.

Brady is also an MVP candidate Broncos Authentic Jerseys , and passed Brett Favre for the most wins in one season for a quarterback after turning 40 years old.

Still, there are questions about Brady’s durability heading in his 15th postseason.

He threw for a league-leading 4,577 yards passing and 32 touchdowns, but he also got hit a lot more than he did last season (32 sacks in 2017 after just 15 in 2016).

It didn’t stop the Patriots from averaging 28.6 points. And certainly having a healthy Rob Gronkowski, who missed last year’s playoffs, has given the Patriots a huge lift with 69 catches for 1,084 yards. Not to mention the boost of offseason addition Brandin Cooks with 65 receptions for 1,082 yards.

Minus a favorite target in Edelman, receiver Chris Hogan (shoulder) and running backs James White (ankle), Rex Burkhead (knee) and Mike GIllislee (knee) have all dealt injuries down the stretch.

And Brady himself showed some of his first flecks of football mortality over the final four games. He had four of his eight interceptions during that stretch, and saw his passer rating dip to as low as 59.5 in a 27-20 loss at Miami.

Brady threw just two interceptions in 2016 and had a passer rating below 89 only once. But he also had the unexpected benefit of resting for four games at the start of the season because of his ”Deflategate” suspension.

Whether related or not, it was also during the final six games of this season that Brady began dealing with both Achilles tendon and left shoulder issues.

Brady said this week that his health is ”good.”

”I mean, I’m hoping next week I’ll feel just great and be 100 percent ready to go,” he said. ”So Danton Heinen Jersey Kids , I’m excited for that.”

Jets coach Todd Bowles said while Brady was less accurate late in the year, he thinks it’s unfair scrutiny for a guy that is judged by such a high standard.

”If he makes a tiny mistake everybody jumps all over it, but the guy plays outstanding football. I don’t worry about him because he usually goes down and makes the plays to win the games,” he said. ”The guy is one of the greatest to ever play the game and he’s still doing it at a very high level.”

Brady said his mind hasn’t been far from the football field this week.

”I think it’s just trying to stay sharp. You know, it’s still football season, so it’s not a week off at all,” Brady said Thursday. ”We’re trying to stay sharp and we’ve worked hard to get to this point, but there’s still a lot more to go. You know, we’re still writing our story, and hopefully we write a good one.”

The Toronto Raptors rode to a seldom-used lineup to move within a game of advancing in the NBA playoffs.

DeMar DeRozan scored 32 points, Kyle Lowry had 17 points and 10 assists and the Raptors beat the Washington Wizards 108-98 on Wednesday night in Game 5.

Toronto rebounded after losing Games 3 and 4 on the road to take a 3-2 series lead back to Washington for Game 6 on Friday night. The home team has won all five games in the series.

The only team in the NBA to avoid losing three straight at any point this season, the Raptors went 5-0 following back-to-back losses during the regular season, and have not lost three straight since last year’s second-round sweep against Cleveland. The last time Toronto lost three regular-season games in a row was from Feb. 8 to 14, 2017.

Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas had not played a single fourth-quarter minute in the series before getting the call down the stretch to play alongside Delon Wright Niklas Hjalmarsson Jersey , Lowry, DeRozan and C.J. Miles, a group that barely shared the floor this season.

”We’re all capable of going it offensively and defensively and it showed tonight,” DeRozan said. ”Everybody stepped up and Delon stepped up big.”

Raprtors coach Dwane Casey acknowledged he was ”searching” for the right lineup combination

”I thought Delon Wright did a good job down the stretch handling the ball,” Casey said. ”It gave us an opportunity for Kyle and DeMar to get off the ball a little bit more and I thought that was the difference.”

Wright scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, and Valanciunas had 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Raptors improved to 5-0 in home Game 5s over the past five years.

”Delon Wright came in and made some big shots and big plays for them,” Washington’s John Wall said. ”Whenever he gets over 10 or 15, nine times out of 10 they win the game. He’s a big key to their team when they go small.”

Wall had 26 points, and Bradley Beal added 20 for the Wizards. They went nearly four minutes without scoring down the stretch. Marcin Gortat had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Washington shot 8 for 24 in the fourth quarter, and Toronto had 15 rebounds in the final frame.

”We feel like we let one slip away,” Wall said. ”They made the biggest shots at the end of the game.”

The Raptors won despite being out rebounded 50-35.

”They crushed us on rebounds,” Lowry said.

Wall connected on 10 of 21 shots but missed all four of his attempts from 3-point range.

”He’s a tough cover,” Casey said. ”He’s one of the best in the league. I’ve said that he’s a miniature LeBron when he has the ball coming at you because he’s so strong and powerful.”

Toronto trailed 87-82 after a three-point play by Kelly Oubre Jr. with 8:52 left, but regained the lead with a 6-0 run over the next 1:20.

After Washington’s Markieff Morris dunked with 4:06 left Youth Denzel Ward Jersey , Wright replied with a 3 and, after a missed shot by Wall, converted a layup off a pass from DeRozan to give the Raptors a 99-93 lead with 2:59 remaining.

Washington didn’t score again until Beal’s 3 with 16 seconds left.

”The ball became a little bit stagnant tonight down the stretch,” Brooks said. ”We need to get some more ball movement.”

From a quarterback standpoint http://www.officialavalanche.com/authentic-adidas-j.t.-compher-jersey , I don’t think we missed too many. We didn’t turn it over at quarterback, so pleased with all three of those guys.”

Fitzpatrick completed his first six passes of the night, the kind of early sharpness he’ll need to carry into the regular season for the Bucs to survive.

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to re-sign linebacker Ramon Humber to a one-year contract.

Humber returns for a third season in Buffalo after starting a career-high nine games last year. He has nine seasons of NFL experience and signed with Buffalo in 2016 to serve in mostly a special teams role.

Last year, the 30-year-old was credited with 83 tackles Mark Stone Jersey , including 12 in a season-opening win over the New York Jets. He also had one sack and forced a fumble while playing about 50 percent of the defensive snaps over 13 games.

Humber’s playing time decreased over the season with 2017 fifth-round draft pick, Matt Milano, taking over the starting job.

Buffalo still has an opening at starting middle linebacker after Preston Brown signed with Cincinnati last weekend.

"No risk it Patric Hornqvist Jersey , no biscuit" is ancient history for these Arizona Cardinals.

The big-play, fling it down the field offense of Bruce Arians has been replaced by a run-oriented game that features toughness up front, and a stout defense emphasizing physical play, especially in the secondary.

At least that's the way first-year coach Steve Wilks envisions it.

Whether that results in success in the standings is an open question, especially with a passing game that's still a work in progress, and a brutal road schedule.

Las Vegas odds make Arizona a 120-1 long shot to win the Super Bowl and has his team's over-under victory total at just six games.

"That's great," Wilks said to a room full of reporters. "From Day 1, April 3 Nikita Zaitsev Jersey Kids , I talked to the guys about our vision and expectations. Outside of that team meeting room a lot of people aren't giving us a chance. I'm probably looking at quite a few of them. That's fine as well. But we're going to continue to emphasize the fundamentals and technique and going about our business each and every day and put ourselves in position to hopefully, No. 1, win our division, and then from there we'll talk about everything else."

Wilks believes he has some star power to build around: David Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Sam Bradford, Patrick Peterson and 2017 NFL sacks leader Chandler Jones.

And expect to see a lot of Johnson, who is out to remind people he's one of the NFL's best running backs (and earn a nice contract in the process).

"I definitely feel like people seem to have forgotten about me Nicklas Backstrom Jersey ," Johnson said. "You hear people talking about Todd Gurley, Zeke Elliott and Le'v Bell -- and they're great backs. But then you notice that you're not hearing your name or people are not talking about you."

Johnson led the NFL in yards from scrimmage and touchdowns two seasons ago, but fractured his left wrist in the opener last year and didn't play again.

Wilks, defensive coordinator at Carolina last year, has emphasized toughness and physical play from the get-go. Some practices start with a one-on-one drill between a top defensive and offensive player. The first had defensive end Jones against left tackle D.J. Humphries.

He also took the team outside of air-conditioned University of Phoenix Stadium for a handful of practices during training camp in the sizzling desert sun. The idea is to develop a mental edge, he said.

Here are some things to consider about Wilks' Cardinals:

O-LINE MAKEOVER: The Cardinals rebuilt the offensive line and Wilks calls it the strength of the team.

Humphries and guard Mike Iupati, who has had a strong preseason, are on the left side Youth Jake McCabe Jersey , with free agent acquisitions Justin Pugh at right guard and Andre Smith at right tackle. Center A.Q. Shipley went down with a season-ending knee injury, so rookie Mason Cole, a third-round pick out of Michigan, is his replacement.

BRADFORD'S KNEE: Bradford's history of injuries led the Cardinals to bring the quarterback along slowly. He didn't begin taking regular first-team reps until minicamp and got regular days off during training camp.

Bradford said the results have been great. He completed his first seven passes in the preseason before having a couple dropped in the third game against Dallas, but Arizona really hasn't amped up the passing game yet.

"I feel good right now," he said. "My body's in a good place and I think now we'll see the benefits of the plan we had throughout OTAs and throughout the spring."

ROOKIES GALORE: Rookies figure to fill prominent roles.

Dynamic second-round pick Christian Kirk will return punts and might win the No. 2 receiver job. Cole is the center. And fourth-round pick Chase Edmonds has shown to be a powerful backup to Johnson.

And that's not counting quarterback Josh Rosen. Arizona moved up in the draft to pick Rosen 10th overall and he's impressed his teammates and coaches by absorbing the offense so quickly, and incessantly asking questions.

Rosen gets his chance if Bradford goes down.

DEPTH ISSUES: Depth seems to be the biggest question mark for the Cardinals, particularly at linebacker and wide receiver.

Arizona has one of the best receivers to play the game in Larry Fitzgerald Elias Lindholm Jersey , who returns for his 15th season. But the pecking order after that is in flux.

The Cardinals have a talented trio of linebackers in Deone Bucannon, Haason Reddick and Josh Bynes, but the numbers are thin behind them. There's also a big drop-off after the first-team offensive line.

TURNOVER AVALANCHE: Arizona opponents had 16 turnovers in its first three preseason games, a whopping eight by the Cowboys.

The Cardinals were plus-15 in takeaways through three preseason games. Can that continue at even a close pace in the games that count?

The Oakland Raiders have traded fullback Jamize Olawale to the Dallas Cowboys in a deal that also includes a swap of picks in the upcoming NFL draft.

Dallas sent Oakland one of its two fifth-round picks (No. 173 overall) in exchange for a sixth-round pick (No. 192 overall). The Cowboys now have three picks in the sixth round.

Olawale went to training camp with the Cowboys in 2012 and was on their practice squad before going to the Raiders and making his NFL debut by playing in the last three games that season. He has played in 77 career games.

The deal announced Tuesday came only five days after fullback Keith Smith left the Cowboys to sign a two-year deal with the Raiders.

After winning 14 games Authentic Erik Karlsson Jersey Kids , including his first postseason victory with Minnesota and a second NFC North title in four years on the job, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer has a team set up to sustain such success.

The items on his to-do list are major issues, though.

Finding an offensive coordinator has become the top priority, following the departure of Pat Shurmur to become the head coach of the New York Giants. Then there’s the matter of working with general manager Rick Spielman to identify a starting quarterback for 2018, with contracts scheduled to expire for Case Keenum, Sam Bradford and Teddy Bridgewater.

The offensive coordinator will be determined first and likely have some input into the quarterback quandary, too, but sorting out the age, ability, cost, durability and unrealized potential of Keenum, Bradford and Bridgewater will be the more complicated and critical task.

Having been awake with angst until 3 a.m. following Minnesota’s 38-7 loss at Philadelphia in the NFC championship game on Sunday, Zimmer said at his season-ending news conference Tuesday that he hasn’t pointed his mind down that path yet.

”My whole focus was on the now and not so much the future,” Zimmer said. ”Rick and I talked about that earlier. We said, `Let’s just go through the season. Let’s figure it out after the season.’ We’ll go through that process and go from there and see how that goes. We’re just going to work through it.”

Though Zimmer was staying true to the status report, he also didn’t exactly offer a ringing endorsement of Keenum.

”I’m going to work through the process, just like I always do Womens Jared McCann Jersey ,” Zimmer said, when asked for a specific evaluation of the year Keenum had after going from unheralded backup to season-saver. ”We’re going to evaluate all the players. We’re going to evaluate everybody and go about our business like we always do.”

As for Bradford, whose knee injury yielded the position to Keenum, Zimmer said Bradford told him on Monday that he feels like he is past the trouble that limited him to two starts in 2017.

As for Bridgewater, who took Bradford’s spot on the active roster for the second half of the schedule only to be bumped back to third string and did-not-suit-up status for the playoffs, Zimmer said the Vikings naturally would have preferred to see a fuller picture of on-field action following his recovery from a major knee injury. Keenum’s success made that impossible for Bridgewater, who hasn’t appeared in a high-stakes situation in more than two years.

”For him to even get to that point to where he was and be able to come out and practice and compete, get in a game, was a true credit to him,” Zimmer said, adding: ”He’s at the point where he can play. You just have to figure out where’s he at, because obviously we didn’t get to see him through games.”

Not many teams in NFL history will have such a strong season to come within one win of the Super Bowl, only to have the sport’s most important position in such an uncertain state, but that’s where the Vikings find themselves.

”I guess it’s unique, but it’s part of the process in the NFL,” Zimmer said. ”You work through it, and you go about your business.”

As for the offensive coordinator vacancy http://www.officialcoyotes.com/authentic-adidas-clayton-keller-jersey , Zimmer said he’ll take his time to try to get the right hire. He didn’t rule out internal candidates such as quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski, but he also acknowledged the benefit of new ideas from the outside.

The defense could not have been better in the regular season, ranking first in both fewest yards and points allowed, but it faltered over the final five quarters of the playoffs. Nick Foles and the Eagles torched this proud group for 456 total yards.

”I have to do a better job in some areas as far as maybe sticking to some things too much because we’re successful,” Zimmer said.

As for the Super Bowl that will be painfully played on the team’s home turf at U.S. Bank Stadium, Zimmer will not be in attendance, in case there was any question. He’ll be at his vacation ranch in northern Kentucky, inevitably cringing from time to time about coming so close to the franchise’s first championship.

”Our fans were unbelievable the way they helped this football team out. They talked about bringing the whole state together, the state of Minnesota and Vikings fans throughout the world,” Zimmer said. ”That made me feel good, that we were able to bring a bunch of people and try to work for something for a common goal. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to finish it for them, so that is one of the disappointments.”

The only time Bills rookie quarterback Josh Allen ever felt rattled on his first day of practice was shortly after the session ended Friday.

That's when coach Sean McDermott escorted the first-round pick to the sideline and introduced him to Jim Kelly in what became a meeting of the team's hopeful future and legendary past.

"I'm still shaking from meeting him," Allen said.

Though Allen grew up in central California and played college at Wyoming, the 21-year-old is very aware of who Kelly is and what he means to Buffalo.

"It's all on the wall," Allen said, pointing the four AFC Championship banners the Kelly-led teams won from 1990-'93.

Allen also knows how tough Kelly is in his ongoing battle with cancer.

"I can't say anything else but he's a special man. He's been through a lot Andrew Ladd Jersey ," he said. "And to be in the spirits that he is and to come out here and show support for the Buffalo Bills, that just shows to me how much he means to Buffalo and Buffalo means to him. It's awesome."

Kelly made a surprise visit for the start of two-day rookie minicamp some six weeks after his latest operation to have cancer removed from his jaw.

Kelly walked with a cane and had difficulty speaking. He raised his right thumb while he and Allen posed for pictures. Said Kelly: "It's the best thing I can do: Thumbs up."

The Bills are pinning their hopes on Allen to fill what's been their most unsettled position since Kelly retired following the 1996 season.

Buffalo traded up five spots in the draft order to select him with the No. 7 pick two weeks ago. Allen became just the fourth quarterback selected by Buffalo in the first round, and first chosen in the top 10 of the draft order.

He joins a team once again shuffling starters after Tyrod Taylor was traded to Cleveland in March despite helping Buffalo to a 9-7 finish and end a 17-year playoff drought.

At 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, Allen is a raw, but strong-armed and athletic quarterback. He was a two-year starter at Wyoming, where he completed 365 of 649 for 5,066 yards with 44 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

Allen was knocked for his relatively low completion percentage of 56.2 and mechanics, something he spent working on this offseason.

McDermott isn't providing any guarantees in saying Allen will compete for the starting job with offseason free-agent addition A.J. McCarron and second-year player Nathan Peterman.

"We've got a plan in place for all of our players, and in this case Josh, in terms of bringing them along at the right pace," McDermott said.

Allen threw a few wobbly or high passes to his right. He was far more accurate with passes to his left and over the middle. Allen showed off his strong arm, by completing several deep passes, including one to rookie seventh-round pick Austin Proehl.

He was also intercepted once during one-on-one drills. His hard, high pass over the middle slipped through receiver William Scott's hands and to a defensive back.

"I felt like I've made a lot of strides," Allen said. "I felt like I put the ball where it needed to be most of the time. Obviously, there's some throws that I would like back. But as we progress through this rookie minicamp and through the rookie developmental period, I plan to improve every day."

He was pleased in learning how Kelly was overheard praising a few of his throws.

Allen said Kelly first contacted him by text in welcoming him to Buffalo the day after being drafted.

"Hopefully Matt Calvert Jersey , in the near future we can keep that relationship going," Allen said. "Any rookie that can develop a mentorship with a former quarterback like Jim Kelly, it's going to be huge."

NOTES: The Bills signed fourth-round pick, Weber State cornerback Taron Johnson. That leaves their top-three selections unsigned, including third-round pick, Stanford defensive tackle Harrison Phillips. ... The Bills also signed 12 undrafted free agents including Arizona guard Gerhard De Beer, who is from South Africa. He was a Pac-12 discuss throwing champion and made the switch to football. ... Also signed were defensive linemen Mat Boesen (TCU) and Mike Love (South Florida), linebacker Corey Thompson (LSU), cornerbacks Ryan Carter (Clemson) and Levi Wallace (Alabama), running back Keith Ford (Texas A and M), receivers Robert Foster (Alabama) and Cam Phillips (Virginia Tech), offensive linemen Ike Boettger (Iowa) and Mo Porter (Baylor), and Penn State kicker Tyler Davis.

Tennessee left tackle Taylor Lewan is skipping the Titans’ mandatory minicamp while his agents negotiate a new contract for the two-time Pro Bowl lineman.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson said in a statement Tuesday just before the team started a three-day minicamp that Lewan’s representatives told the team he would not be attending.

”We have had several constructive conversations over the last 5-6 weeks about his contract status Authentic Oliver Bjorkstrand Jersey ,” Robinson said in his statement. ”He is currently under contract, and we are working to keep Taylor as part of this organization for a long time.”

Lewan, who turns 27 in July, is younger than Nate Solder who became the league’s highest-paid offensive lineman in March with a four-year, $62 million deal from the New York Giants . Lewan is under contract for 2018 after the Titans picked up his fifth-year option paying him $9.34 million this season.

The Titans drafted Lewan at No. 11 overall in 2014 out of Michigan, and he has started every game the past two seasons in being selected to consecutive Pro Bowls. He has started 53 of his 58 games played with the 6-foot-7, 309-pound Lewan a key piece in protecting quarterback Marcus Mariota.

First-year head coach Mike Vrabel, himself a former NFL player, said he is confident in Robinson and the front office to handle contracts.

”I understand that there sometimes becomes issues with those, so I think that they’re best handled internally,” Vrabel said.

Lewan had taken part in most of the team’s offseason program, and he also helped the Titans unveil their redesigned uniforms in April. But he wasn’t at a photo session Monday, and the Titans announced Lewan wouldn’t be at minicamp minutes before the first practice started Tuesday.

Kevin Pamphile, a free agent signee this March, replaced Lewan in the lineup at left tackle. Dennis Kelly has been at right tackle with Jack Conklin recovering after tearing his left ACL in the Titans’ playoff loss at New England. Pamphile signed with the Titans in part for an opportunity and from getting to know Robinson while in Tampa Bay.

”You’ve got to take advantage of every rep you get whoever’s across the line Andrew Ladd Jersey ,” Pamphile said. ”Opportunity and competition that remains the key for our offensive line, want to make sure we’re all competing and getting better each day.”

Lewan, a Pro Bowl left tackle, told reporters May 30 that he was letting his agent handle negotiations for a new contract and that any talks with the Titans to that point were nothing worth talking about.

Lewan, who believes he’s the NFL’s best left tackle, certainly noticed Solder’s ”awesome” contract.

”There are a lot of things I do well and a lot of things I can improve upon as a football player,” Lewan said on May 30.

”But for me, if I don’t walk on the field and think I’m the best player in the NFL every time I step on the field, then I’m doing something wrong.”

Four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Orakpo isn’t worried about Lewan not being at this minicamp.

”I love Lewan, I respect every decision he makes, and one thing about Lewan whether he’s right here right now or whether I see him Week 1, he’s going to be ready to go,” Orakpo said.

”So hopefully they’ll get that situated. That’s out of my control. But knowing Lewan if it gets done Saturday before the game Week 1, he’ll be ready to go.”

Linebacker Kevin Dodd, the No. 33 pick overall in 2016 Bobby Ryan Jersey , had stayed away from the offseason program until Tuesday when he faced a fine. He literally ran away from reporters trying to talk to him after practice. Vrabel said he didn’t talk to Dodd, only asked him to do what the coaches have asked all the other players to do.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Myles Garrett has shredded Ben Roethlisberger. It’s time to tear up the real Big Ben.

If he can get his hands on him.

Cleveland’s defensive end, who playfully destroyed a photo of Roethlisberger as part of a video parody during the offseason, gets his first crack at Pittsburgh’s star quarterback in a game on Sunday when the Browns host the Steelers.

Garrett missed last year’s opener as a rookie against Pittsburgh with a severe ankle injury, and Roethlisberger skipped the season finale to be ready for the playoffs.

They’ll finally meet on the field, and Garrett hopes to make his formal introduction in the Steelers’ backfield.

“I plan to get back there a little bit,” he said.

Garrett has had an eye on sacking Roethlisberger almost since the moment the Browns selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 draft. Not long after arriving in Cleveland, the 6-foot-4, 272-pounder vowed he’d go after Roethlisberger and “chop him down,” something the Browns have rarely done while going 2-21 against him as a starter.

Finally, Garrett is going to get some whacks at Pittsburgh’s extra-large QB, who can be a handful to topple.

He has a plan of attack.

“You’ve got to use your whole body,” said Garrett, who was voted a captain by his teammates. “You can’t try to arm tackle him Anders Lee Jersey , where you just try to grab him by his arm or his side. You have to lean into him a little bit, try to torque him.

“Otherwise, he’s just going to strike you off or spin out of the tackle. He just has that way where you’re on him, but he’ll just step up while you’re flying by, so you have to make sure you’re directly on him.

“If you’re leaning any kind of way, he’ll just slip out of there.”

Roethlisberger’s size allows him to ward off would-be sackers, and his ability to sense pressure in the pocket gives him other escape routes.

As he gets ready for an opener in which he’ll be without star running back Le’Veon Bell, Roethlisberger knows Garrett has him in his sights.

“What an animal, a guy that just gets after the quarterback,” he said. “We are really going to have to keep two eyes on him. There’s really not much I can do with Myles. It’s not like I can speed option at him and give him a fake or something so it’s up to the line to block him and those guys.”

Roethlisberger was sent the 61-second video produced by the Browns in July that featured several players including quarterback Tyrod Taylor, wide receiver Jarvis Landry and others in a spoof of “The Office,” the popular TV series.

Toward the end of the video, Garrett, dressed like nerdy character Dwight Schrute, complete with wire-rimmed glasses Jeff Skinner Jersey , feeds a photo of Roethlisberger through a paper shredder while offering a blank expression to the camera.

Garrett said he willingly participated in the gag.

“It’s just a joke,” he said. “I’m here to have a little bit of fun and play some football. It goes along with what I’m trying to do, so I had no problem doing it.”

All kidding aside, Garrett has major respect for Roethlisberger, one of eight quarterbacks in NFL history to pass for more than 50,000 yards.

‘He’s a Super Bowl champion,” Garret said. “A multiple-time Super Bowl champion, so you know he’s played on a high level consistently for years, so you have to be able to respect greatness when you see it, but you also have to seize the opportunity of being able to usurping that position.

“You have to be able to respect it, but don’t be afraid of it and don’t be afraid of that moment.”

NOTES: Coach Hue Jackson isn’t ready to divulge his starting left tackle for Sunday. Jackson may move Joel Bitonio back to left guard and start undrafted rookie Desmond Harrison at tackle. “I just want to get through practice and kind of go from there before I make that choice,” Jackson said. “I owe it to the football team. I owe it to all involved to make sure we make the right choice to start the game.” … Garrett, Bitonio and Taylor were named captains along with P Britton Colquitt and LB Christian Kirksey. … QB Baker Mayfield was named the team’s top rookie in training camp by the local media.

Alex Ovechkin lifted the Prince of Wales Trophy Ryan Kesler Jersey , spun around and set it back down on a table.

The rest of the Capitals joined him for a team photo after beating the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 on Wednesday night in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference final, a victory that sent Washington to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 20 years.

A decade of playoff frustration is fading fast.

”I think Ovie has been on a mission,” Capitals coach Barry Trotz said. ”They wanted this game, no question.”

Ovechkin scored early and Andre Burakovsky added two second-period goals as the Caps continued to shed a label as postseason underachievers.

Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots for his second straight shutout and the Lightning, who led the NHL in goals during the regular season, failed to score in the last 159 minutes, 27 seconds of the series – a stretch of nearly eight periods.

Ovechkin, who had never advanced beyond the second round, scored 1:02 into the winner-take-all showdown he had described as probably the ”biggest game in my life.”

”The first goal was very important Authentic Mitchell Marner Jersey ,” Ovechkin said. ”After that you could see we have all the momentum on our side. Holts was unstoppable today. He was special. Everybody was all in. Everybody was sacrificing their bodies. I think we all deserve the win.”

To earn a spot in the Stanley Cup Final, where they’ll play the Vegas Golden Knights, the Capitals beat the top-seeded Lightning three times on the road, improving to 8-2 away from home this postseason.

It’s Washington’s first Cup Final appearance since 1998, and the first during Ovechkin’s 13-year career.

”We played a great game,” defenseman John Carlson said. ”We deserved to win this.”

Two games after being a healthy scratch for Game 5, Burakovsky became the 17th player to score a goal for Washington in the playoffs this year – four shy of the NHL record – when he beat Andrei Vasilevskiy on a breakaway at 8:59 of the second period.

The winger, who played two games in the first round against Columbus before sitting out 10 straight with an upper-body injury, added a breakaway goal to make it 3-0 heading into the last period.

Nicklas Backstrom had an empty-netter to complete the rout.

”What a game. What an experience. We had a lot of guys pitching in Authentic Alexander Wennberg Jersey ,” winger T.J. Oshie said. ”The biggest guy of all had to be Holts. He played fantastic, back to back shutouts.”

Tampa Bay, which rebounded from losing the first two games at home to win three straight for a 3-2 series lead, had plenty of chances. A couple of shots clanged off the post, Yanni Gourde was unable to get his stick on a loose puck in front on an empty net and the game gradually slipped away.

Washington was the more physical team in evening the series with a bruising 3-0 victory in Game 6. They played with urgency from the start again Wednesday night and never let up.

Tampa Bay’s last goal in the series came 33 seconds into the second period of Game 5, which the Lightning went on to win 3-2.

”We’re here to win as team, no matter who gets the credit,” said Holtby, the fifth goalie to deliver a Game 7 shutout to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Final.

”I felt we could have won every game Brock McGinn Jersey Kids ,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. ”We ran into a tough Washington team that was probably feeling the same thing, and once you get this far you’ve probably done some magical things on the way.”

It was the 33rd time in league history that a Game 7 was required to determine a Stanley Cup finalist. Home teams are 21-12 in those games.

Tampa Bay also played Game 7 in the Eastern Conference final in 2015, when they blanked the New York Rangers, and again two years ago, when they lost 2-1 to Pittsburgh.

Both of those deciding games were on the road. The Lightning had never lost a Game 7 at home before Wednesday night.

”It’s going to take a few days to digest this. It’s tough to sit here right now and think of positive things and how it was a pretty great season,” Lightning captain Steven Stamkos said. ”It doesn’t seem that way when you have this group – and we’ve been to this position before – and you can’t find a way to give yourself a chance a win. We thought we had that group. It’s just an empty feeling right now.”

Notes: Ovechkin and Backstrom made their 11th career Game 7 appearance, one shy of Boston’s Zdeno Chara for the most among active NHL players. In addition to Chara, only five other players in NHL history have appeared in more Game 7s: Patrick Roy (13), Scott Stevens (13) Ondrej Palat Jersey , Glenn Anderson (12), Ken Daneyko (12) and Stephane Yelle (12). … Evgeny Kuznetsov’s assist on Ovechkin’s early goal extended his points streak to 10 games. … Vasilevskiy made 19 saves. The Lightning outshot the Capitals (29-23) for the first time in the series.

Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa is heading to the 10-day disabled list because of a stiff back.

Correa sat out games on Tuesday and Wednesday, and wasn’t in the lineup Thursday night at Tampa Bay. The Astros say he’ll be put on the DL on Friday.

”He feels better, but we just need to do the right thing and get him completely symptom-free and not sore,” manager A.J. Hinch said. ”He’s not going to be available, so we’ll move forward and hopefully this is just 10 days and he’ll be activated by next weekend.”

Hinch said by putting Correa on the disabled list Friday, retroactive for three days, there is a possibility the 23-year-old star can be activated July 5 for a weekend series against the Chicago White Sox.

Correa is hitting .268 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in 73 games and recently had a streak of 70 errorless games.

The Astros will make a corresponding move to fill their 25-man roster on Friday.

Marwin Gonzalez was in Houston’s lineup at shortstop Thursday night.

Texas was expected to be one of the major leagues’ top power teams this season despite being in rebuilding mode.

The Rangers proved that premise to be true when they flexed their considerable muscle on Friday and ripped five home runs Authentic Gustav Nyquist Jersey , three of them in the first two innings, to set the tone in an 11-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a three-game series at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.

The White Sox will try to get back on track with left-hander Carlos Rodon (1-2, 3.70 ERA) taking the hill Saturday to oppose ageless Rangers right-hander Bartolo Colon (4-5, 4.72).

The Rangers’ win provided a night off for closer Keone Kela Josh Morrissey Jersey , who on Wednesday saved his 20th game in 20 chances, the longest season-opening streak in club history. Kela broke Francisco Cordero’s 2004 record of 19 consecutive saves and now has converted 22 straight chances dating to May 2017.

The 22 consecutive saves constitute the third-longest streak in Texas history. Kela is nine saves shy of tying Joe Nathan’s club record of 31 consecutive converted saves in 2012.

“It’s a nice comfort zone to have,” Rangers manager Jeff Banister told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about Kela. “Most of the saves have been clean innings. (It has been fun) to watch the maturation process of Key out there on a nightly basis being able to calm it down and just go pitch by pitch.”

It looks as if the White Sox will be without right-hander Miguel Gonzales for a while longer. Gonzales, who has been on the 60-day disabled list since April 18 with right rotator cuff inflammation, returned from his rehab assignment after experiencing soreness in a throwing session after the start for Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

“It’s a little setback Mikael Granlund Jersey ,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria told mlb.com about Gonzales’ situation. “He still felt a little something so he’s going to be re-seen, re-evaluated, and we’ll see where we go from there.”

Gonzalez opened the season in the rotation but was 0-3 with a 12.41 ERA before landing on the disabled list. This is the second time he has had to restart his rehab.

Rodon is scheduled to make his fifth start of the season. It will be his third start on the road and fifth career start against Texas. He picked up the win in his last start on June 24 at home against Oakland when he allowed two runs and seven hits with three strikeouts in eight innings.

Rodon is 1-0 with a 3.91 ERA and .245 opponents’ average in his previous starts against the Rangers.

Colon will head to the mound for the 17th time this season and make his 15th start. He enters with 244 career wins, most in MLB history by a native of the Dominican Republic. He recently passed Juan Marichal (243) and is one win shy of matching Nicaragua’s Dennis Martinez (245) for most victories by a native of Latin America.

Colon ranks among AL leaders in pitches per inning (fifth, 15.0) and SO/BB ratio (ninth Nate Schmidt Jersey , 4.15) but has also permitted 19 home runs, third most in the AL. He will pitch on an extra days’ rest after taking loss in the Rangers’ 2-0 defeat on Sunday at Minnesota.

The former White Sox pitcher (12 starts in 2009) did not face Chicago in the clubs’ earlier series. He is 11-8 with a 3.84 ERA in 24 career appearances (all starts) against Chicago.

Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly has been released from a New York City hospital a day after having surgery to prepare for permanent dentures to be inserted into his reconstructed upper jaw.

Mount Sinai West head and neck surgeon Mark Urken said the procedure went well, in a statement released by the hospital on Friday.

Kelly's wife, Jill, says her husband is experiencing some swelling and adds: "Everything is moving forward as planned."

The procedure involved doctors adding tissue into the upper portion of his mouth. Kelly is scheduled to have permanent dentures inserted during a follow-up procedure in September.

Kelly has been unable to eat solid foods since March James Neal Jersey , when he had surgery to have cancer removed from his jaw after tests revealed a recurrence. The 58-year-old Kelly was initially diagnosed five years ago with oral cancer, and had been cancer free since September 2014.

      “Respect the Process.”

That’s the Bills’ motto. Or is it the 76ers’ motto?

The Bills filed a trademark for “Respect the Process” on May 23 Nate Schmidt Jersey , trademark attorney Josh Gerben tweeted. The team wants to use the phrase on cellephone cases, magnets, flags, towels, water bottles, door mats and in video games Mike Green Jersey , according to the application.

The 76ers have used the phrase “Trust the Process” in their rebuilding efforts.

While the 76ers never filed for a trademark, Joel Embiid did for “The Process” in 2016. The center, who has “The Process” as his background picture on Twitter, could block the Bills’ filing by his own application, per Gerben.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon will miss the entire season after tearing the ACL in his right knee on the final play of practice Saturday.

McKinnon took part in his first day of team drills since injuring his right calf Aug. 9 before going down with a much more significant injury.

"He made a cut on air, no one was around him Nick Foligno Jersey ," coach Kyle Shanahan said before the MRI determined the severity of the injury. "He went down. It looked awkward."

The 49ers were counting heavily on McKinnon this season after signing him to a four-year, $30 million contract in free agency. The 49ers now have three healthy running backs on the roster in Matt Breida, Alfred Morris and Raheem Mostert.

McKinnon spent four years mostly as a backup in Minnesota. He has rushed for 1,918 yards with an average of 4.0 yards per carry, has 142 catches for 984 yards, and has scored 12 touchdowns.

The injury came hours before the 49ers had to reduce their roster to 53 players. The most notable cuts were defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu Brayden Schenn Jersey , who was signed as a free agent this offseason expected to boost the pass rush; Jonathan Cooper, who was expected to challenge for the starting right guard spot; and 2016 sixth-round pick Pita Taumoepenu.

The moves to cut Attaochu and Taumoepenu come as the Niners are still searching for consistent pass rushers on the outside. San Francisco kept 10 defensive linemen, with seven capable of playing outside, but none is a proven pass rusher.

Attaochu was slowed by injuries in training camp and wasn't able to show he could solidify that spot despite getting $2.5 million in guaranteed money when he signed his one-year deal this offseason.

"We just didn't get that many opportunities to correctly evaluate him," general manager John Lynch said. "As you go into the regular season, dependability in terms of knowing when a guy will be out there is important. We made a tough decision but one we felt like we had to."

The other players released Saturday were receiver Steven Dunbar Jr.; tight ends Ross Dwelley and Cole Hikutini; defensive backs Antone Exum Jr. Brendan Leipsic Jersey Kids , Dexter McCoil, Tarvarus McFadden, Emmanuel Moseley and Tyvis Powell; running backs Malcolm Johnson, Jeremy McNichols and Jeff Wilson Jr.; offensive linemen Andrew Lauderdale, Coleman Shelton and Najee Toran; quarterback Nick Mullens; defensive lineman Niles Scott; and linebacker Korey Toomer.

The team also placed defensive lineman Kentavius Street on injured reserve and linebacker Reuben Foster and Victor Bolden Jr. on the suspended list. Foster will miss the first two games and Bolden is out for four games.

The Niners also could still place safety Marcell Harris and offensive lineman Erik Magnuson on injured reserve with the option to bring them back later in the season if they need another roster spot.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers would welcome the return of tight end Antonio Gates following the serious knee injury sustained by Hunter Henry last week.

Rivers endorsed the idea of re-signing Gates Steven Stamkos Jersey , who is a free agent after playing all 15 seasons of his record-setting career for the Chargers, but said the decision would be up to general manager Tom Telesco and head coach Anthony Lynn.

"I would always be excited if he walked back in the door, obviously. Certainly, he would get my vote," Rivers said Tuesday.

Gates would be a logical fit to help replace Henry, who is expected to miss the upcoming season because of a torn ACL he sustained in practice. Henry had emerged as a top target for Rivers over his first two seasons with 81 receptions for 1,057 yards and 12 touchdowns, contributing to the team's decision not to bring back Gates.

Gates caught 87 of his 114 touchdown receptions from Rivers, the second-most by a quarterback-receiver combination in NFL history behind the 112 touchdown passes Peyton Manning threw to Marvin Harrison for Indianapolis. Gates has the most touchdown receptions by a tight end in NFL history to go along with his franchise-record 927 receptions and 11,508 yards receiving.

The absence of Henry leaves Virgil Green as the only tight end currently on the roster that has caught a pass in an NFL game. Behind Green Sean Monahan Jersey , who signed with the Chargers as a free agent from Denver in April, are second-year players Sean Culkin and Braedon Bowman and rookies Cole Hunt and Ben Johnson.

"It will look different without Hunter in there, but thankfully we have another 10 practices or so, counting the mini-camp, to continue to shape the offense for who we're going to be," Rivers said.

Rivers had been in contact with Gates since Henry tore his ACL, declining to discuss the specifics of their conversations.

"If something were to happen down the road, he wouldn't have wanted it to come that way with Hunter's absence," Rivers said.

BOSTON — Having been officially eliminated from capturing the top spot in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics have to make sure they don’t suffer any further serious injuries in their final three games of the regular season.

And they also have to find out who will finish in the seventh spot and provide the opposition in the first round of the playoffs.

Three games in four days await Boston: Sunday at home against the Atlanta Hawks Authentic Marcus Johansson Jersey , Tuesday at Washington — one of the three potential playoff opponents — and Wednesday night at home against the Brooklyn Nets.

The Celtics, who will be without Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward and Daniel Theis for the rest of the season and not knowing when Marcus Smart (thumb surgery) will return, rested Al Horford and Jayson Tatum in Friday night’s victory over the Chicago Bulls. Jaylen Brown scored a career-high 32 points and Greg Monroe had his second career triple-double in the victory.

Even though they won, the Celtics were eliminated from top-spot contention with the Toronto Raptors’ win over the Indiana Pacers, making these final three games meaningless.

“We haven’t discussed at all about making any changes to our team, so that’s not even been a discussion,” Boston coach Brad Stevens said after Friday’s game. “I think at the end of the day, we’ll play at least one, maybe two of the games with our group — with the whole group — and we’ll go from there.

“But we generally know what each guy’s going to bring to the table Ondrej Palat Jersey , what each guy does best, and how it’s going to fit together, and then it’ll be a matter of who we’re playing.”

Jonathan Gibson, signed out of China for the final four games of the season, became an immediate fan favorite by basically getting off a plane and hitting three 3-pointers for nine points in nine minutes. He is not eligible for the postseason.

Boston could also play Miami or Milwaukee in the first round. They are tied for sixth, one game ahead of the the eighth-place Wizards.

The Hawks, losers of 13 of their last 16 and playing out the string, pulled off a surprise victory at Washington Friday night behind 23 points, five assists and four rebounds from Taurean Prince and 22 points from Tyler Dorsey.

All this amid reports that have coach Mike Budenholzer is interested in getting the Milwaukee job.

According to the Racine Journal Times:

“Multiple sources said two current head coaches — Doc Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers and Mike Budenholzer of Atlanta — have more than a passing interest in the Bucks’ job and coaching the NBA’s brightest young star in Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“Some NBA officials said Budenholzer, who guided the Hawks to 60 wins just three seasons ago when he was accorded NBA’s Coach of the Year honors Mike Green Jersey , also doesn’t want to be part of an extensive rebuild in Atlanta.”

The article went on to that Budenholzer, the NBA Coach of the Year after guiding the Atlanta to 60 wins three years ago, doesn’t want to be part of an “extensive rebuild” with the Hawks.

Budenholzer’s position in the Atlanta organization has changed with the arrival of new general manager Travis Schlenk, with Budenholzer losing say on player personnel. That could leave the door open for his departure.

The Celtics have won the first three games against the Hawks this season. Irving had 65 points in two wins at Atlanta while Terry Rozier scored a then-career high 31 in the other victory, which came without Irving.

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Zach Eflin has four wins in four June starts. He’ll attempt to stay perfect in the month as the Phillies try to avoid being swept by the New York Yankees.

The teams meet Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The Phillies’ bats have been quieted by the Yankees’ staff in the first two games of the set. Philadelphia Larry Allen Jersey , now on a three-game losing streak, was shut out on Tuesday night and has just two runs on nine hits in the series.

“They beat us pretty good,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler told reporters after Tuesday night’s 6-0 loss. “We just have to wear it and get ready for (Wednesday).”

The Yankees, meanwhile, have 10 runs on 17 hits in the pair of games against the Phillies and have bounced back with two wins after getting swept by the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend.

Eflin (5-2, 3.44 ERA) will try to cool off the Yankees, who led the majors in OPS and home runs as of Tuesday.

Eflin is 4-0 in four June starts. He has a 2.28 ERA and .594 opponent OPS with 22 strikeouts and only four walks over that span (23 2/3 innings). Most recently Jay Novacek Jersey , Eflin gave up two runs in five innings against the Washington Nationals last Friday.

“Those are situations I’ve been working on the past couple years, being able to put guys away when I need to,” Eflin, who worked around six hits in the start, told MLB.com “Being able to do that and overcome that was huge. Looking forward to continuing that and getting deeper into games.”

Eflin will face the Yankees for the first time in his career on Wednesday,

The Yankees will send Luis Cessa (0-0, 3.00) to the mound for his first start of the season. Cessa spent two months on the disabled list this season with a strained oblique http://www.chicagobearsteamonline.com/markus-wheaton-jersey , but the 26-year-old has made four appearances out of New York’s bullpen. He pitched last Friday for the first time since April 17 and tossed two scoreless innings against the Rays.

“We have a lot of confidence in Cessa, that is the kind of role going into the season that we envisioned him in — the fifth, sixth starter and bullpen guy,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told the New York Post last week. “We feel he is built up enough and on line to be the best option that day.”

Boone noted that Cessa will be able to throw 70-80 pitches during his Wednesday start. Cessa has allowed two earned runs in six innings for the Yankees this season, and he is 2-7 with a 4.54 ERA in 14 career major league starts. He has never faced the Phillies.

Cessa could get more backing from a red-hot Giancarlo Stanton. The Yankees left fielder and 2017 National League MVP has nine hits over his last three games and is 4-for-8 so far in the series. Stanton is hitting .459 with a 1.335 OPS, three homers, four doubles and nine RBIs over his last nine contests.

Regardless of whether the NFL previously had an anthem policy gag order Mason Crosby Jersey , it has one now. Even if it only relates to one owner.

Via Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the NFL has instructed Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to quit talking about the anthem policy.

Last week, Jones said that his players will be on the sideline and standing for the anthem, ignoring both the fact that the NFL’s Anthem Policy 2.0 (which currently has been tabled) permits players to stay in the locker room and the fact that the NFL and NFL Players Association may negotiate an Anthem Policy 3.0 that preserves in some way the players’ right to protest during the anthem.

Jones had been scheduled to conduct a round of interviews on Sunday evening with Dallas-area media outlets, and those outlets were informed that there could be no questions about the anthem policy. FOX 4 canceled its interview given the limitation on the questioning.

Via Hill, Mike Doocy of FOX 4 explained that he made the decision to kill the interview after being told at the last minute he couldn’t ask any questions about the anthem policy. While it would have been better for Doocy to have been allowed to ask the questions with Jones simply declining to answer http://www.dallascowboysteamonline.com/tyron-smith-jersey , it’s hard to pass on a chance to sit down with Jones, even with restrictions. Given the Dez Bryant situation and every other issue involving America’s team, why not do the interview and simply tell the audience that, shortly before the session started, the Cowboys slammed the door on any anthem questions?

The league has now slammed the door on any anthem comments from Jones. It remains to be seen whether he’ll be punished for the things he already has said. Given that this would simply give the primary resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue another reason to attack the NFL, the league may choose not to pick Jerry’s deep pockets over this one — unless he defies the direct order to quit talking about the anthem policy.
